There are so many things to see along our freshwater spring runs and rivers, but sometimes you have to really look. Except for sunsets, Florida is rarely dramatic. Gators – especially babies – hide in the vegetation, turtles slither quickly into the water, herons sweep across the stream overhead while Wood Ducks and Gallinules disappear into the plants lining the run. Over the course of your paddle, elevation may change by only a few inches and the banks are usually covered by trees and bushes or extend in swampland as far as you can see. Changes can be very subtle. Keep your eyes open, take the time to really SEE and keep your camera always ready. We’ve grouped the flora and fauna we’ve encountered into the loose categories below. All the photos were taken by our members on our explorations.
